I've been having abandonment issues and PTSD I think for the longest time since childhood and it's affecting my relationships into my adult life...I don't know who to talk to because in my family we have been raised to be unemotionally available which I believe isn't a healthy way to live. I'm surprised at how much I've been sweeping under the rug. I've been coping with the stress through substance abuse but I'm afraid for my health basically because I can't afford medical insurance. Being unemployed isn't helping either. I could use any recommendations for a therapist. Kindly email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. thankyou
Hello! Thank you for sharing. You've been struggling with PTSD and abandonment issues since childhood, was the PTSD diagnosed by a professional? As children you were raised to be emotionally available. How was this for you? You've been sweeping things under the rug and you cope with the stress through substance abuse. How do you feel when you do this?
Abandonment issues arise when an individual has a strong fear of losing loved ones. How have you been handling your relationships? A fear of abandonment is a form of anxiety and often begins in childhood when a child experiences a traumatic loss. Was this the case for you?
PTSD is a mental disorder that occurs in people who've experienced or witnessed a traumatic event such as a serious accident, rape, terrorism, war , death or physical violence. People with PTSD will re-experience intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings following the traumatic experience. They may relive the event through nightmares, flashbacks that may cause them to feel estranged or detached from other people. Anger, intense fear or sadness are common when one has PTSD.
